I read this story recently on a church buletin and although I do not know that author to which I should acredited it to, it touched my heart and I hope that it will touch you as well.
John 6:1-14 describes how Jesus took a little boy's lunch, five loaves of bread and two fish, and miraculously fed five thousand people, and had 12 baskets left over! For Steve, a nashville buisinessman, this was a story of a miracle performed by Jesus during his early ministry, but not something that would happen today. He was wrong.
While on a mission trip to Malawi, Africa, Steve visited an orphanage, where he planned to distribute 150 small toys to the children. Most of the children had never even seen a toy, and Steve was looking forward to seeing the excitment on their faces.
When he arrived he was told that there were 325 children.
He felt awful not having enough toys for everyone. The orphanage director lined the kids up from first through sixth grade, assuming that some of the older children would not recieve a toy. With an obvious look of lament on Steve's face, a teacher of the orphanage walked up to him, looked him in the eye and in his broken english said, "Five loaves and two fish." Steve replied, "Yes that is a miracle in the New Testament; I don't think that will happen here."
All of a sudden, the line of children stopped. He asked the orphanage director to continue sending the children out because there were more toys. The director looked at Steve and told him all the children had gotten their toys. She pointed to a field where they were vigorously playing. He quickly spread the reamaining toys out on the table and coutend "148, 149, 150!" At that time the teacher came to him again and said, "Have faith- Five loaves and two fish." This wonderful teacher of faith in the middle of the African bush, knew that God would provide for his children.
"No one who comes to me will ever be hungry and no one who believes in Me, will ever be thirsty again." John 6:35.
